Successful Owner-Operator

After ten years in the Marine Corps, I became a truck driver. I worked hard, and the money was good. Then I got injured, and while I recovered, I couldn't drive.

I had time to think about what I really wanted to do, and that's when I decided to start my own trucking company. I maxed out my credit cards to buy a used truck.

I called my new company Boblett Brothers, in honor of my fellow truckers. As a Marine, I learned that we all depend on each other on the front lines, and the same is true in civilian life. I have learned a lot about what it takes to be successful in trucking, and I'm proud to share my experience with my brother truckers.

While I'm driving, I listen to XM radio, and I always learn something new. But most trucking radio shows focus on controlling costs. They don't tell you how to make more money. I had to learn that on my own. I started a Facebook group called Rate Per Mile Masters, so owner-operators could learn together about rates. The Rate Per Mile Masters group now has almost 9,500 members, including owner-operators, drivers, and even some freight brokers. We turn to each other for advice and friendship. It's a great group.
